KIKU Kyoto Ikebana

LEARN THE BEAUTY OF SIMPLICITY 〜 A quiet moment in your daily life 〜

About

Welcome to a world of Japanese beauty. Why not use your everyday mug cup, pick your favorite flowers and leaves, and enjoy this authentic art of Ikebana? You can even share the experience as a gift — perfect for celebrating a birthday with a friend who lives far away.

In Japan, we often speak of "wabi-sabi" — a sense of elegant and refined simplicity. Influenced by Zen, this unique concept of beauty has shaped traditional arts such as tea ceremony and flower arrangement.

In my Zoom sessions, I’ve simplified Ikebana so anyone can enjoy it: just 1 type of flower (3 pieces) and 1 type of branch or greenery (3 pieces). It’s easy and creative!

The session includes not only the hands-on Ikebana lesson but also:

I will demonstrate and explain all necessary techniques. After that — it's your turn!

The best part is, you can easily apply what you learn to everyday life — surprising and delighting your friends and family. Plus, through Japan’s four seasons, you’ll discover an ever-changing variety of flowers to enjoy with guests.

In just one hour, you can create your own arrangement and experience the quiet, elegant spirit of Japanese beauty.

About Me

Kiku

Hello, I'm Kiku. I was born and grew up in Nara. My mother had been an ikebana teacher and had taught for 40 years. As a young girl, I grew up watching her teach and was captivated by the simplicity and beauty of this unique traditional art. After her retirement, I thought I should pass it down. I also have a licensed teacher and have been learning for the past 15 years.

I have lived in Kyoto for more than 20 years now, and in 2016, I became a Certified Kyoto-City Guide. I’ve served as an interpreter and English guide for foreign guests, including VIPs, specializing in the area of Japanese history and culture.

My online ikebana has been chosen by various guests around the world for several different purposes — team building, Japanese cultural studies, and recreation.

My favorite words are: "Treasure every meeting, for it will never recur." — from a Japanese tea ceremony proverb.

I'm looking forward to seeing you in my Zoom session.

Please feel free to contact me.
